The Invented Instruments of Mitchel Ahern

I have been inventing and performing on instruments of my own invention since 1981. Below find images and sounds of many of them.

My principle instrument. A wringer washing machine lid found behind Castle Furniture and Appliance in Worcester. The body used to be guitar-like, but now it is cello-like. Electronics on the neck. Played with bow, mallets, fingers, erasers, and stuff.

Two organ pipes, an Electrolux vacuum cleaner, and various hoses and hardware. Nearly all found on trash day. Played like an acoustic Theramin.

The motorized vehicle goes round and round until the batteries wear out.

Dremellid

Not pictured, the Dremelid is just a wringer washing machine lid played with rotary tool using a grinding bit. Lots of sparks, which makes it a bit dicy to play in some spaces.

More of a concept than a functioning instrument yet. still working on it.

MP3: Spring Back

This is no longer a standalone instrument, but is now part of the Bass Rake.

MP3: Bowed Raque Treated 2

Invented by the Late Scott Haig.
